Traslados, or transfers, refer to the remitting of migrant cadavers over long distances for burial in the homeland. In para aquellos que no regresan en vida, siempre está la muerte, Veronica Gaona stages a burnout utilizing her unlce’s white Ford F-150. Gaona inherited the truck after her uncle’s death and transported it from Brownsville to Houston, passing the United States Border Patrol interior checkpoints for the very first time. Gaona’s abstraction of the traslado, the disappearing F-150 under the smoke, reinforces her understanding of home with the end goal of resolving symbolically and socially the ambiguity of presence and belonging produced by continual but restricted migration.
